Description

Originally constructed during the 1980s the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre is located in Bridge of Don to the North of Aberdeen and by the late 1990s was in need of a programme of comprehensive refurbishment and redevelopment.

Mackie Ramsay Taylor were employed as lead consultant and architects by the AECC to redesign the centre with a new frontage building, a new function room extension, an office block extension, for open market lets, an observation tower, new back stage facilities and the refurbishment of existing auditoria. The new frontage block forms the centrepiece of the new development and comprises, a large entrance foyer, offices, conference rooms and break-out areas, and an escalator link to the south car park and observation tower. The redevelopment took place over a 3 year period, comprising 9 distinct phases of work. All Exhibition and conference facilities were required to be maintained during this period.
